Napoleon Bonaparte was the best person alive during the French Revolution. He did many things that benefited France. They have carried on and still impact us today. When Napoleon was young he went to military school. That’s why he grew up the way he did.
Napoleon always wanted to be a leader. The first great thing Napoleon did was taking over the Directory and becoming First Consul. The Directory was corrupt and unfair. They took bribes easily. Later Napoleon became First Consul and then he made himself the Emperor of France. He wanted things done his way.
Napoleon was a great fighter. He fought so many battles and won most of them. He conquered most of Europe except Great Britain. He had a lot of pride in his country. Because he won so many battles it made the people of Europe have pride in their country also. By that he influenced nationalism. Napoleon also created a French Empire and made himself the emperor.
One of the reasons Napoleon was the best leader was because he tried to help the causes of the French Revolution. He took ideas from the Enlightenment. The philosophers like Rousseau, Voltaire, and Montesquieu argued for change. Napoleon made the Napoleonic Code. It was more legit because it was written down. It made individuals more equal under the law and let citizens have more rights, such as religion and occupation opportunities. Another cause of the Revolution was the unfairness of the Old Regime. So Napoleon made the estates more equal. All the citizens had to pay taxes, not just the third estate. Napoleon also helped solve the financial crisis by created inflation. Napoleon also created a national bank.
Some people claim that Napoleon was selfish and only cared about himself; that wasn’t true. If Napoleon only cared about himself he wouldn’t have took a risk and fought at the front of the line in battles. Napoleon took lots of risks although some didn’t benefit France in the ways he thought they would; for example the Continental System. He was trying to prevent trade with the British because he was angry that they were not part of his empire. Napoleon also created public schools. They were called lycees. He created the schools because he wanted France to have a stronger military in case someone tried to defeat them.
Napoleon did many great things in making France a better place. He wanted to strengthen his army so France in general would be stronger. Napoleon’s hard work made him a great leader. He was confident, studied war, and went to school. That’s what made his so successful!
